March Update
I’m very late adding a March update considering it’s almost the end of April now, but here goes:
Swim
The swimming is still improving (don’t read the April update when it comes out). I went 12 times during the month, and increased my best distance to 1500m without stopping, which is a huge improvement on the last few months. Now its just a case to keep building on this
Bike
Its been a great month on the bike, in that I have done 4 x 100km+ rides, including my first ever mile century ride which came out at just over 161km on my Garmin. That was always going to be the big test from a bike perspective, and although I struggled with nearly cramping, it went as well I could have hoped for.
In all (including the commute rides to work) I cycled just over 720km in March, which put me at 1,758km for the year to date. That’s not exceptional by any means, but it is a significant increase over the past few years.
Run
I managed just 3 runs in January and 7 in February. In that respect, going for 8 runs in March may not seem like a big improvement, but I naturally cautious about running more than twice a week.
The great news from my perspective is that there has been a big step up in distance, with 2 runs of 10 miles and the final run of the month scraping through a half marathon. This may not have been quick or pleasant, as I barely scraped under 8 minute/mile pace, but running for the best part of 2 hours will be enough to make sure I can get around an Ironman. When I have run marathons in the past I have made sure to do a number of 22/3 mile runs in training, but I can’t see myself going past 18 here, so the run now feels that it is in the right ballpark.
