Project 2015
Project 2015 is my codename for attempting one of the toughest things on my bucket list – the Ironman.
After I had run my first marathon back in 2005, and once I’d discovered my love of cycling, it was inevitable that thoughts of ‘Ironman’ would start making unwelcome appearances in my mind. Looking at it now, it’s something I should have attempted a couple of years ago. Since getting married and having a baby, the amount of free time to train has significantly reduced and is not likely to get any better for at least a few years. To make matters worse, 2014 was a write off from a running perspective. I didn’t seem to go more than a month without getting struck down with calf strains that resulted in 2-3 weeks off each time. It ended up a vicious circle and has really dented my confidence. With a big change in work expected at some point soon, it has reached a point of ‘now or never’ for the Ironman. With that in mind, I’ve somehow decided to target not one but two long distance triathlons.
Being only able to swim 400m without stopping, unable to sit on a bike saddle for longer than a few hours, and still suffering from a calf strain meaning I can’t run, this blog will document my attempt to achieve my hardest sporting challenge ever.
