Bucket List

I started out many years ago writing down a ’30 before 30′ list. The idea was to encourage myself to visit places and carry out activities to live life to the full. Over time, some got removed and new ones got added, but without having them written down and ‘publicised’, I lost focus.

Now I have decided to retrospectively document them in the format of a ‘Bucket List’. Some have been completed, but many are still to do. I was trying to work out what types of things should exist in a bucket list. Originally, I felt only items I could control should be on such a list. I’ve since changed that view. Now, the idea is that when it is my time to ‘shuffle off this mortal coil’ or just plain ‘kick the bucket’, the things in this list are ones I want to have experienced.

My ‘Bucket List’ is broken down into the following categories.

Life Events

  • Get Married
  • Have a Child

Sport/Fitness

  • Run a Marathon
  • Complete a Triathlon
  • Complete an Ironman
  • Complete an Ultramarathon
  • Complete an Adventure Race
  • Cycle a famous bike route

Sporting Events

  • Go to the Olympics
  • Go to a major football final
  • Go to an All-Ireland final
  • Go to the Rugby World Cup
  • Watch the Tour de France live

Travel

  • Walk the Inca Trail
  • Visit the Salt Plains of Bolivia
  • Visit the Pyramids at Giza
  • Visit the Temples at Angkor
  • Visit the Red Rose City of Petra
  • Visit the Taj Mahal
  • Visit the Burj Khalifa (tallest building in world)
  • Walk on the Great Wall of China
  • Go walking in the Alps
  • Visit Christ the Redeemer in Rio
