April Update
Swim
It was a hugely disappointing month with swimming. I’m not too sure what happened, but the swimming just seemed to get harder and the times got slower. I was over in Ireland for a week over Easter, and ended up not going at all. There were also lots of other events on that just meant I missed out on my normal swim routine. I ended up going only 6 times compared to the 12 in March. The only silver lining is that I switched back to swimming some breaststroke after 1km on my last swim, and this seemed to help a lot. The most important thing is to get through the swim feeling ok. I would rather do that on race day in 1hr 30mins and feel good with lots of breaststroke then struggling all front crawl for only a 5-10 min time saving
Bike
It’s been another good month on the bike. I actually only rode one 100km+ ride, which was a tough 135km, but I had a number in the 80/90km range. Overall (including the commute to work) I cycled just over 830km. This was a reasonable increase on last month, and significantly more this year than any other year.
Run
There may only have been a step-up from 8 runs in March to 11 runs in April, and some of these were short runs off the bike. However, included in this were 3 x half marathons and 1 x 15 mile run. This meant a total distance increase from just under 98km in March to over 128km in April. This was also on top of all the cycling. I’m now at the stage where I feel I could get around the run after the bike, assuming there are no injuries or unforeseen circumstances.
Now to see what May brings. I am off on holiday for 5 days at the beginning of the month which will give me a great chance to rest up, but also will end up reducing the figures. The main goal now is to start swimming for an hour at a time, even if it is mainly breaststroke, and to up the long bike rides to close to 150km
