May Update
Swim
It was actually a better month with the swimming then it looked on the face of it. I felt I had stalled for some time, and just wasn’t improving. I’m a huge believer in the concept that if you do things the same, you will always end up with the same results. It was therefore time to mix things up a little. I decided towards the end of the month that I needed to go back to the “swim4tri” sessions at the National Pool. I went to the 1 hour session the last two Wednesday evenings, and I found I was much stronger than when I last went quite a few months. This was to be expected, but at least it gave me a boost. The big session was on the last weekend of the month, when I went to the swimming lake in Bristol. This was my first open water swim of the year. I managed to get round the lake 3 times (circa 1800m) in about 38 mins. This was decent for me, and has given me confidence that I will at least be ok for the 70.3 event coming up.
Bike
It was another good month on the bike, where I kept up some decent mileage, despite being away for a number of days in New York. I ended the month with a hilly ride over the Rhigos and Bwlch mountains on the Friday, a 167km ride round the Cotswolds on the Bank Holiday Monday, and a 160km ride the following Saturday over to Western-super-Mare.
Run
And to complete the clean sweep, a good month running. I was keeping up 2-3 runs a week, and did my longest run to date of 28km, with another 2 runs over 21km. I even ran a 42 min 10km in New York to show that the speed is still hiding in their somewhere
